What's Kapha like?

At the moment of conception, your body type or dosha is determined. This imprint stays with you throughout your life. Your dosha defines your strengths, weaknesses, and habits. It intricately shapes everything from your digestive processes to how you use energy. Within each person resides the trinity of doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—yet one or two usually stand out. Your results distinctly indicate a prevailing Kapha influence…

You are naturally calm, thoughtful, and loving. You tend to speak slowly and melodically. You have an inherent ability to enjoy life and are comfortable with routine. You are strong, loyal, patient, steady, and supportive. You love relaxing.

You tend to have heavier, more grounded bodies than other types. You have a strong build and excellent stamina as well as smooth, radiant skin. You sleep soundly. 

When imbalanced, you may become overweight, retain fluid and sleep excessively. Imbalanced Kapha becomes lethargic and suffers from sluggish digestion and depression. You can dig your heels in stubbornness and resist change. This is great when others want your loving support, but can be stifling when change is necessary. When you feel overwhelmed or stressed, you tend to withdraw.

HOLD UP: Is this ringing true for you? If not, check out Vata and Pitta. This quiz can’t replace an Ayurvedic practitioner. It's entirely possible that you have either one or both of the other doshas closely trailing Pitta. This nuanced interplay might mean that you have a blend of two doshas.

Sometimes, you tend to hold on to things, jobs, and relationships longer than is ideal. This is the perfect example of your excessive need for attachment.

How can you keep Kapha balanced?

Kapha imbalance often shows up as sluggish digestion, heaviness, low motivation, and congestion. These practices help stimulate your system and bring lightness back in.​

1. Get plenty of physical exercise every day. ​Movement is good medicine for you. 
2. Only eat when you're hungry. True hunger comes from sensation in the stomach, not cravings from the mind.
3. Avoid eating late at night. This can weigh you down - especially the next morning.
